Food Waste and Rubbish

Food Waste

Food Waste as increased over the last few years.

Food related Rubbish

Our streets have lots of rubbish in them, don’t get me wrong our street cleaners are doing a good job. Almost 90% of the rubbish in our streets is from fast food chains and other good companies.

When I was at school it was said that these company’s deliberately place rubbish on our streets as a for of advertising.

Is most of the rubbish on the streets from these companies because their sell the most or do their encourage waste.

McDonald’s material accounted for 29% of litter, Greggs 18%, KFC 8% and Subway 5%, according to Keep Britain Tidy’s survey. Unbranded litter from fish and chip or kebab shops made up 21% of the fast food total, while other branded coffee rubbish totalled 5%.

So should these companies be held responsible for this rubbish – should the cost of cleaning up this rubbish be payed by these companies, but we know that if the companies are made to this, they will react by putting up the price for the consumers.

Who should be held responsible for this issue, these companies or the people who drop the rubbish.

So who drops most of this rubbish and when. I would guess at night after going to the pub and school children walking home.

When I go to work on Saturday mornings, walking through Portsmouth town center the place is littered with rubbish. The street cleaners are busy sweeping it all away ready for the shoppers.

“Keep Britain Tidy has named McDonald’s as the most littered fast food brand in the country.

The company’s burger wrappers and drinks cartons are more likely to be found strewn on our streets than any other fast food brand.

Keep Britain Tidy’s branded litter survey serves up super-sized shame for some of the world’s most recognised companies.

Our latest anti-litter campaign was launched by our chief executive Phil Barton and Cathy Parker of Manchester Metropolitan University this week at London’s Leicester Square.” scourced from Emcams read full article
